At the unveiling party last weekend at the Federal Palace Hotel Marquee, artistes like Lil Kesh, Skales, Sound Sultan, General Pype, Oritsefemi and Black Magic thrilled the guests with their performances while OAPs Dotun, Yaw and Comedian Lafup kept the party rolling with their hype and joke. Working on the DJ deck were DJ Xclusive, DJ Snoop Damaja, Tony Blaze, DJ Switch and DJ Big N. Another novelty that entertained the crowd was the appearance of female models dressed in attires that represent the city. Each model was applauded loudly as they strolled on stage.
With a provocative theme; #MySuperStory, the Nigeria Breweries brand promise their teeming music fans an opportunity to share their super story on the music tour. Already, four lucky individuals that participated in the #MySuperstory campaign  would be touring the cities with the artistes.
The music train will visit eight cities with Calabar being the first city to host the artistes. Other cities include Abakaliki, Auchi, Sapele, Makurdi, Lagos, Ibadan and Awka.
The concert will be in two phases. The first stage kicked off yesterday in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, at the Calabar Municipal Garden and will move to Abakaliki and Awka on May 9 and 16 respectively.
While the second phase will kick off at Makurdi on August 1 and continue to Sapele, Auchi, Ibadan and Lagos on August 8, 15, 22 and 29 respectively.
Meanwhile, the inaugural leg of this year’s Star Music Trek took place at the Municipal Garden in Calabar featured epic performances by some of the biggest names in Nigerian music such as Wande Coal, KCee, Burna Boy, Chidinma Black Magic, Oritse Femi and Cynthia Morgan.
The show then began with amazing local talents thrilling the crowd with music and the open roof arena could not contain the excitement. The local acts were given the stage as part of Star’s commitment to showing that everyone can shine no matter what.
Black Magic was the first to mount the stage and the crowd didn’t stop cheering as he performed hit songs like Rainbow, Repete, Africa and Pass you by featuring Oritsefemi.
His performance of ‘Pass You By’ brought Oritsefemi up on stage and the fans went ga-ga when he appeared. After performing ‘Pass You By’, Oritse Femi then took over the stage completely. The ‘Double Wahala’ hitmaker went back to his first hit ‘Mercies of the lord’, and became very emotional recounting on how much God has blessed him over the years. Quickly, he bounced up with ‘Redi’, ‘Sexy Lady’, and ‘Double Wahala’ to crown it all up leaving the crowd lit with excitement.
At about 12:30am, there came the petite singer Chidinma, whose birthday coincided with her performance. She summoned the crowd to sing her a birthday song, which they did, and this set the mood for her performance. The Kedike hitmaker performed hit songs Oh Baby, Kedike, Shoki Remix, Emi Ni Baller amongst others.
Shortly after, a DJ Battle ensued between Mavins Record DJ Big N & DJ Snoop Da Damaja, which shook the arena to its foundations. Following this battle was Burna Boy’s performance. The reggae dance hall artist delighted the crowd with hit songs such as Don Gorgon, Kush, Like To Party, Check & Balance, Gba Gbe amongst others.
The big surprise for the night was an appearance by ‘Limpopo’ hit maker, Kcee who surprisingly appeared on stage to the delight of the capacity crowd. Kcee performed hit songs such as Limpopo, Turn by Turn & Pull over. He further surprised a fan on stage with a whooping sum of N50, 000 after emerging winner of a mini dance competition organized by him on stage.

Following Kcee’s Performance was undisputed queen of Nigerian ragga/dancehall Cynthia Morgan. The energetic singer with her trademark red hair stormed the stage with her excitement visible, this being her debut on the Trek. She performed hit songs such as Shoki Rmx, Run Their Mouth, Don’t Break my heart, Lead Me On, German Juice and I’m Taken.

To put an end to all performances and bid Calabar a farewell was an exhilarating performance by Wande Coal who went far back to perform songs from his debut album ‘M2M’ including ‘You Bad’, ‘Bumper to Bumper’, ‘Taboo’, ‘Pere’ in addition to his newer songs including ‘The Kick’, ‘Baby Hello’ & ‘Wake Up’.

The nationwide concert tour which has thrilled Nigerian music fans for nearly two decades has a tradition of bringing the country’s biggest artists together to thrill fans around the country and this year’s theme, “My Superstar Story” aims to inspire the youth to view their situations as a work in progress and to always keep their goals in mind.
