Former Chief of General Staff under the late General Sani Abacha government, General Oladipo Diya, has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan and other Nigerians on the historic occasion of democratic transition from one political party to another through credible election.

He said he was equally convinced, like many other Nigerians, who had worked with the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, that his forthrightness, diligence, mental energy and patriotic zeal put him in good stead to make the difference by providing the leadership that would help in building a better Nigeria.
In a statement he personally signed, Diya praised Jonathan for his exemplary, courageous and heroic leadership that made it possible to conduct a successful national election in the country.
The statement read in part: “By his courageous and heroic action on March 31, 2015, Jonathan has redefined our electoral history and consequently, he has joined the ranks of highly principled leaders, who used their positions and status as platform of crusade for enthronement of a better Nigeria.”
Diya said he was impressed by Buhari’s unprecedented resilience in his crusade for a better Nigeria. He added that his perseverance in contesting four successive presidential elections was an eloquent testimony to his determination to make the crucial difference in building a better country on the principles of social harmony, justice and fair-play.
He added: “I share with Gen. Buhari’s fervent desire to reinvent Nigeria of our collective dream–prosperous, democratic, humane and just society where everybody irrespective of socio-economic background, ethno-religious affiliations, gender or age has equal opportunity for self-actualisation in peaceful and harmonious environment.”
