The Police Command in Niger said it has arrested two suspects who allegedly killed a Superintendent of Police during a robbery operation at Storm Star Hotel, Madalla, in Suleja Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mohammadu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Minna, reports News Agency of Nigeria.

Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, alleged that the suspects belonged to an eight-man gang responsible for armed robbery and the killing of a Police officer on November 15.

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has reacted to the withdrawal of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from the recent endorsement of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the consensus candidate for 2019 presidential election.

SDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Mohammed Alfa, had last week said the party already has a candidate, Mr Donald Duke whose name had been submitted to INEC for the 2019 election.

Reacting, however, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, CUPP 1st National Spokesperson described the withdrawal of the SDP as inconsequential.

Despite claims to the contrary, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has reported to the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) that it spent N623.16 billion on under recovery otherwise known as subsidy from January to November, 2018.


The report to FAAC was made at the last meeting in Abuja where revenue generating agencies gave account of their performances in the year.


The NNPC in its report dated 19th December, 2018  revealed that it also has an arrears of N67.23 billion for deductions made from FAAC.

The youth arm of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Progressives Youth Movement has said the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole was more interested in fighting personal battle than work for the reelection bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The youths claimed that Oshiomhole was insincere about Buhari’s re-election. In a statement issued by its Chairman, Usa Abdullahi, and Secretary, Udo Akpandem yesterday, the youth stated that some of Oshiomhole’s actions undermined the electoral chances of Buhari.

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal Office, has filed a motion at a Federal High Court, Enugu, seeking an order for the interim forfeiture of the $2.8million seized from two men last week.

 Also filed is an affidavit of urgency for the matter to be heard on December 27, 2018, before a vacation Judge sitting in Port Harcourt.

The rate of drug abuse in Adamawa and other states around the  country is on the increase as addicts increasing resort to use of embalming oil, paint,  petrol, and such readily available  substances.

The Head of Drug Reduction Unit of the Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Shehu Dankolo, who spoke to The Nation correspondent on drug abuse, said the resort to unconventional drugs resulted from the banning of cocaine and tightening of rules regarding the purchase and consumption of tramadol, diazephaem, tyre solution and other conventional drugs.

Rev. Jolly Nyame, former Taraba governor, on Tuesday joined his excited colleagues to celebrate stylish Christmas haircuts offered to 300 inmates of Kuje Prison, FCT.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the free haircut was offered by the National Association of Barbers and Salon Employers of Nigeria (NABSEN), during a Christmas visit to the Prison.

The outreach was undertaken in collaboration with Fades and Bangs Global, an Abuja-based international barbing outfit, and Maria Luna, the Deputy Ambassador of Venezuela.
