With a solemn pledge to the development of the state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa yesterday in Asaba took the oath of office as the fourth executive governor of Delta State alongside his deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro.

Dr. Okowa, elected on the platform of the PDP , congratulated President Buhari of the APC, expressing the hope of a robust working relationship with the Federal Government in the task of nation building.
He was sworn in by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Marshall Umukoro at a ceremony witnessed by the immediate past governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, politicians, traditional rulers, the clergy among others.
Dr. Okowa in his inaugural speech pledged to translate his campaign promises as encapsulated in his S.M.A.R.T agenda into concrete realities for the prosperity of the state.

To achieve the lofty promises, note governor sounded a not of warning to politicians especially those who live on government that, “the business of government can no longer be business as usual. Those of us who are politicians must realise that promises are meant to be kept; the promises that we made during electioneering campaigns matter and we are under obligation to keep them.”
Describing the present economic challenges posed by the down turn in the nation’s economy as not only real but diverse and complex, Dr. Okowa noted that though the challenges can be fixed, they do not require quick solutions, urging the people to be patient.
According to him, in the first week of his administration, three executive bills which require urgent need to develop Asaba, the state capital and other areas would be forwarded to the House of Assembly for consideration.
