PDP accuses RSIEC of plot to use APC register for tomorrow’s poll
The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) had on Wednesday, denied that it released voters’ register to RSIEC for the local government election as speculated.
The commission, in a statement signed by the Administrative Secretary, Roy Obijuru, stressed that it did not at any time release any voters’ register to RSIEC for the controversial election.
Berating RSIEC for still planning to go ahead, and organize the local government election, despite the absence of authentic voters’ register from the INEC, Obuah, who spoke through his media aide, Mr. Jerry Needam, accused the state electoral body of compromising its responsibility, describing the development as tragic and most regrettable.
According to him, the action of the RSIEC could be likened to someone trying to legalise an illegality.
Describing the planned election as an exercise in futility, Obuah commended the courage of the other 13 political parties for withdrawing from the council election.
He assured the affected political parties that the incoming PDP-led government will ensure that they are given equal opportunity to participate in any political contest.
Obuah described as undemocratic, plans by the outgoing APC–led state government to ‘foist illegally constituted councils on the state,’ adding, “it must be resisted at all costs, to make sure that it does not stand.
“It would be recalled that the RSIEC had earlier spread outright falsehood, that it had received the voters’ Register for the purported council election from INEC, to hand-pick and install APC candidates as council chairmen and councilors.”
“Hopeless as the situation is, the RSIEC consequently, has resorted to use the APC membership register, in place of the INEC Voters Register to perpetrate the illegality, which must end in nullity,” Obuah said.
