Mass protest in Kano over blasphemy of Muhammed
Thousands of Muslim faithful known as Ahbabu Rasul- S.A.W on Friday stormed the Kano State Government House and the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II to protest the blaspheming of Prophet Muhammed by a preacher, Abdul Nyass.The demonstrators who are mainly youths took to the streets of Kano, carrying sticks and other weapons to show their displeasure with the alleged blasphemous statements against the prophet.
The youths who attempted to gain entrance into the state government house were prevented by security operatives, who had hectic time calming the apprehensive youths
The youths who were chanting “Allahu Akbar,” meaning God is great,
temporarily ceased the government house for about an hour before the
intervention of government officials and security agents who also formed
a barricade around the premises.
However, the intervention of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso saved the
situation which would have snowballed into a bloody clash between the
demonstrators and the security agents manning gates of the government
house.The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for State Affairs, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo and the Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr, Yunusa Dangoni, invited the leader of the sect, Sherriff Sani Jan-bluo, to the government house and asked him to calm the frayed nerves of the youths.
