Buhari’s election raises hope of new Nigeria –Onu
Onu, who made the remark in his speech as the chairman on the occasion of the investiture of Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, Governor of Sokoto State, as the ‘Verbatim Magazine Man of the Year’, in Sokoto, said Buhari would work with distinguished Nigerians such as Alhaji Wamakko in the Senate, to build a nation where every citizen would be equal before the law.
The former governor assured Nigerians that the future of the country under Buhari would not only witness the enthronement of fairness and justice, but also achieve a greater level of development in all sectors of the nation’s economy.
He noted that the commencement of the announcement of the results of theMarch 28 presidential election created an environment, which gave hope for a brighter future to Nigerians. He added that the tension that characterized the pre-general election days suddenly disappeared and the nation’s currency became more strengthened.
Commending the management of Verbatim Magazine for their choice of Governor Wamakko as the 2014 Man of the Year, Onu stated that the honour was in celebration of excellence in governance and in recognition of a leader who put the interest of the people first.
The APC Chieftain stressed that the people of Sokoto State were proud of Wamakko’s initiatives in putting in place necessary mechanisms aimed at making the state an envy of other states of the federation with the manner he built roads and extended electricity supply to virtually all parts of the state, thereby bringing development to the rural areas of the state.
He added that Wamakko’s development strides in education, agriculture, health, transportation, information, technology and housing as well as urban development, endeared him to the people of the state.
Onu, who felicitated with Dr. Wamakko on the conferment of the award and his election into the Senate, described him as a forthright leader, who Nigerians owed a lot of gratitude for joining leaders of like minds to effect a change in government by defeating an incumbent president in an election.
He, therefore, thanked the Sokoto Governor for acting in the best interest of the nation by moving away from the comfort provided by the ruling party to join an opposition political party, whose future at that time was not certain, because of his love for Nigerians and his determination to be part of the change the nation desired.
