Kwara, Ebonyi Elect New Speakers, Other Officers

Twenty-four members of the fifth assembly of the Ebonyi state house of assembly on Monday elected the member representing Izzi West, Hon. Francis Nwifuru and the member representing Onicha East, Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa, as the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.
The motion for the election of the Speaker was moved by Odefa and seconded by Joseph Nwobashi (Ezza North East) while the election of the Deputy Speaker was moved by Chike Oguji (Ikwo South) and seconded by Frank Onwe (Ohaukwu North).
Other principal officers as announced by the Speaker include: Joseph Nwobasi (Majority Leader); Chike Oguji (Deputy Leader); Kingsley Ikoro (Chief Whip); Frank Onwe (Deputy Chief Whip) and the member representing Afikpo North East, Hon. Maria Nwachi (PPA) as the Minority Leader.

The new Speaker further directed the Clerk of house, Mrs Rose Nwokporo, who earlier presided over the session, to notify the executive and judiciary that the 5th assembly has been constituted and ready for communication.
Inaugurating the assembly, the governor, Engr. Dave Umahi assured that the executive arm of government would not interfere with the internal affairs of the house, adding that he would continue to play fatherly role to the assembly.

Similarly, the 24 members of the Kwara state house of assembly unanimously elected  former chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Justice, Hon. Ali Ahmad as the 8th speaker of the  state house of assembly‎.

Hon. Ahmad succeeds former speaker Razak Atunwa who has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives representing Ilorin West/Asa federal constituency of the state at the national assembly.

Hon. Mathew Okedare representing‎ Ipaye/Ejidogari/Lawa constituency of Moro local government council of the state emerged as the deputy speaker of the house.

Hon. Hassan Oyeleke (Ojomu/Shao state  constituency emerged as the Majority Leader of the house.
