Many injured as cultists clash with policemen in Lagos
Many
people were reportedly injured as the policemen shot into the air to
prevent the hoodlums from taking over the control of the Onipanu Toll
Gate from them.
newsman Online gathered that the hoodlums were protesting against the arrest of some of their members by a police task force team which raided the hideout of suspected hoodlums in the area.
The toll gate gang are said to always be at war with those from Conoil area over control of territories around Onipanu and Ilupeju areas of Lagos State.
The policemen had to call their colleagues from the Rapid Response Squad, Alakara Divisional Police Station and Ilupeju Police Station before normalcy could return to the area.
A resident of the area, who described what happened to newsman Online, said: "some policemen came and raided a shopping complex where the cult boys allegedly used as their hideout. The policemen who are from the Task Force succeeded in arresting some people who were accused of habouring the cult members.
"Hardly had the cult members left when the hoodlums attacked the policemen who were stationed around the toll gate. The hoodlums, said to be armed with guns, broken bottles and other weapons, reportedly engaged the police team in a clash.
The image maker in charge of the state police command, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident and added that the police responded swiftly by restoring normalcy in the area
The police spokesperson added that "efforts are still on to apprehend the perpetrators as it appears they have gone underground as our men are patrolling the area to ensure there is no further breach of peace. "
