Suspected killer of corps member in Kwara arrested, charged to court

Leader of a six-man criminal gang, Abdullahi Tanko, who allegedly killed a female corps member in Ilorin, Kwara State, has been arrested by the state police command and arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrates' Court.
Tanko is among suspected killers of the late female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Miss Idowu Yetunde Shukurat, serving in Ilorin, the state capital, before her death.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Matthew Ologbon, informed the court on Tuesday that on May 23, 2015, at about noon, the police received a distress call that they should go to Simeon Okedi Street in the GRA located at Ukpabi Asika Junction in Ilorin.

Ologbon said that when the police got to the place, they found the late corps member on the ground in a pool of her blood.
The police prosecutor also told the court that investigation by the Police revealed that Tanko and his collaborators, now at large, conspired to trick the deceased from her residence at Sawmill area of Ilorin to Shoprite area along GRA, where she was killed on that fateful day.
He told the court that the suspected killer and his gang also raped the deceased inside their car, which caused her untimely death.
He added that after they had allegedly raped the late corps member at Tanko’s residence, they carried her corpse to a nearby junction.
He added that the police traced the blood of the deceased to Tanko’s house, leading to the arrest of the suspected killer.
The police prosecutor also told the court that the mobile phone of the deceased was found with Tanko at the time he was arrested.
He added that efforts were still going on to arrest Tanko’s fleeing gang members by the police.
The  Magistrate, K.A Yahaya, ordered that the accused to be remanded in Mandala federal prison until the case would resume on August 10.
