Tambuwal Orders Investigation Of Jamilu’s Death In NCSDC Custody

Tambuwal Orders Investigation Of Jamilu’s Death In NCSDC Custody

Worried by the pathetic circumstance that led to the death of 38-year-old Jamilu Abdullahi while in the custody of the Sokoto State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Governor Aminu Tambuwal has ordered the state’s human rights agency to investigate the matter.

Tambuwal, in a statement by his spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, vowed to get to the root of the matter to avoid a repeat of such incidence.

While insisting that his administration would continue to respect the sanctity of human lives, Tambuwal added that he values the lives of all human beings.

The statement read in part, “The administration of Governor Tambuwal values human lives and will continue to respect the sanctity of the lives of all its citizens.”

Newsman earlier reported the alleged torture of the victim by the NSCDC which led to his death. The 38-year-old Jamilu Abdullahi of Danbuwa area was the breadwinner of a family of eight after the death of his father, a retired army officer.

Jamilu, though hale and hearty before his arrest, according to family source, was however rushed to Sokoto Specialists Hospital a day after the arrest because of the alleged torture he received from the NSCDC.

He was referred to the Usman Danfidoyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, where he died on May 29, 2015 after receiving treatment for about two days.

NSCDC brought the corpse to Jamilu’s family but it was rejected on grounds that, they wanted justice and since then, the corpse has been with the NSCDC till even the time of filing this report.
