FG- We have evidence Justice Ngwuta corruptly enriched himself
The Federal Government said on Wednesday before a Federal High
Court in Abuja that it had the evidence to prove its case of corrupt
enrichment against a Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court.
Lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Charles Adeogun-Philips, said this in
his opening remarks before calling the first prosecution witness on
Wednesday.
The Federal Government is prosecuting Ngwuta on 16 counts, including
money laundering and others relating to fraudulent obtaining of multiple
passports.
Buhari meets with Saraki, signs Endangered Species Act
President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate President Bukola Saraki met behind closed on the last working day of the year. The President also assented to Endangered Species Control of International Trade and Traffic Amendment Act 2016, earlier passed by the National Assembly.
This brings to 17 the total number of Acts the President assented to in the year 2016.
The Senate President, who came at about noon, also joined President Buhari to observe the Jumat prayer at the Villa.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly
Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, who briefed State House
Correspondents, said the Act was one of the 10 bills forwarded by the
National Assembly to President Buhari, adding that with this he has
completed work on all the bills sent to him for assent.
Maryam Abacha Varsity Earmarks N1 Billion For Infrastructure
President
and Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger Republic, Dr
Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo yesterday said the management of the institution
has set aside N1 billion for the construction of theatre halls,
classrooms, administrative blocks and laboratories at the permanent site
of the university.
Dr Adamu who stated this during a brief ceremony to mark the
foundation of the permanent site said the university was fast growing in
number, adding that there was the need to create a conducive
environment for easy assimilation of knowledge.
Aisha may be poisoned by Aso Rock forces, Apostle prophecies

As 2016 gradually winds to an end, many Nigerian religious
leaders have been churning out prophecies that are meant to be
earth-shaking.
One of such prophecies state that the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, risks being poisoned by “Aso Rock forces.”
According to the President of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle
John Suleman, in his 50 prophecies for 2017, Aisha must be wary for her
life.
As reported by Daily Post and other online media, Suleman,
in a statement issued by his Public Communications Advisor, Phrank
Shaibu, said some ‘forces’ in Aso Rock were planning to poison Aisha and
that the same ‘forces’ will alienate vice-president Yemi Osinbajo.
The prophecy states that the “Aso Villa forces” will make attempts to remove Osinbajo from office, but they won’t succeed.
The Apostle also said that “God will humble Buhari in 2017;”
and that Mr. President will be bereaved in 2017. He did not elaborate,
however.

Kaduna communities cry out over damage to farmlands
Two
communities in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State cut off by
over flowing water from Galmo river, have urged the state government to
construct a bridge to link them with other communities in the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] reports that some of the residents
of Gagarekutare and Gajagaja said they had been cut off for over three
years since the river was expanded to provide water to Galma dam.
The dam was constructed to supply potable water to Zaria and eight other local government areas of the state.
The residents said that since the dredging, the river had overflowed
its banks and took over farmlands and access roads in the area.
NAN reports that the water had covered about two kilometres of the
road linking the two communities with Anchau, by Yadi Junction along Jos
road.
Two killed as Igbo traders clash with Fulani in Enugu

Two people were killed yesterday in Enugu, following a bloody clash between Igbo traders and a Fulani at the Gariki market.
The deceased persons were simply identified as Ali and Ifeanyi.
We learnt that trouble started when the late Ali brought a
cow from new Artisan market to slaughter in Gariki abattoir where
Ifeanyi worked as an attendant.
The idea to bring the cow to Gariki abattoir was due to the state
government’s order to close the Artisan market following a clash that
led to the death of a policeman, Gabriel Ugwu.
According to a source at the market, the quarrel started when the
late Ali paid Ifeanyi N400 as slaughter fee instead of the stipulated
N500.
Etete Questions FG’s Decision Not to Prosecute IOCs- Malabu Oil Deal

Resources, Chief Dauza Loya Etete (better known as Dan Etete) has
queried the decision of the federal government not to prosecute the
three oil multinationals – Anglo/Dutch Royal firm Shell, France’s Total
and Italy’s ENI Nigerian subsidiary, Agip – that were parties to a
transaction entailing the payment of $1.1 billion by the international
oil companies (IOCs) into a federal government-designated escrow account
in exchange for a stake in a prolific oil block held by Malabu and Oil
Gas Limited in 2011.
Etete, who owns Malabu Oil and Gas, has also denied any wrongdoing in the deal.
Ambode offers amnesty to cultists, criminals in Lagos
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday announced the
readiness of his government to offer amnesty to cultists willing to
renounce their membership of cult groups and turn over a new leaf.
Mr. Ambode, who stated this in Ikorodu at the ongoing One Lagos
Fiesta, said his administration has perfected plans to use 2017 to
rehabilitate all those involved in one form of criminality or the other
and are ready to be law abiding, with the view to making them live
normal lives and contribute meaningfully to the society.
Pastor Adeboye's Endorsement Of Gov. Ayo Fayose And Its Contradictions
On December 24, 2016, the
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor
Enoch Adeboye paid a visit to Ekiti State. Since it was supposed to be a
religious program the man of God held religious rallies at Ado Ekiti,
Ilawe Ekiti, and Ogotun Ekiti. He also called on Governor Ayo Fayose who
entertained him and gave him a "gift" on behalf of the government and
people of Ekiti State. In appreciation of the gift, Pastor Adeboye
prayed for the governor. The governor later accompanied the Pastor to
the palace of Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe. In his brief
political remarks at the palace, Pastor Adeboye eulogized Governor Ayo
Fayose for his "courage and boldness" and recommended his model of
governance to other governors in the country.
Tajuddeen: More than N5trillion govt projects abandoned nationwide
A member of the House of Representatives, from Zaria Federal
Constituency, Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, said on Wednesday that more than N5
trillion government projects were abandoned across Nigeria.
The lawmaker made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Tajuddeen expressed “deep worry” over the situation and added that the country was incurring huge losses due to the abandonment.
